Rangers need length from deGrom and pressure from the right side

At the plate, the Rangers can stack Wyatt Langford, Duran, Jake Burger, Cody Freeman and a right-handed catcher against Jump. That alignment offers both platoon leverage and enough power to punish a left-hander who falls behind.
Jump has the arsenal, but the Athletics are watching the odometer
Gage Jump is listed opposite deGrom after one of his sharper major-league outings. His swing-and-miss pitches held their shape deep into that start, so this is not a soft-tossing rookie waiting to be swatted.
The Athletics are nevertheless monitoring how Jump recovers after moving beyond his previous professional innings high, a workload plan confirmed by mlb.com. Stress matters as much as the inning count: several extended plate appearances could shorten his leash even if the Rangers do not strike immediately.
The Athletics were swept by Baltimore after a better stretch that included a series win over Minnesota. Lawrence Butler remains the lineup’s clearest carrier, but the injury ledger at mlb.com shows Nick Kurtz, Tyler Soderstrom, Jacob Wilson and Brent Rooker among the missing core bats.
The bullpen is better distributed for immediate availability than the Rangers’ group, but its roles remain developmental and matchup-based. There is no settled late-inning ladder, and injuries have removed several experienced options from the pool.
Globe Life Field should keep the weather out of the notebook
First pitch is scheduled for 8:05 PM ET at Globe Life Field, with extreme heat outside and little rain risk. The roof is likely to be closed, although no official same-day decision had been announced.
A closed roof would remove wind and temperature from the actual playing conditions. The broad power alleys do not hand out cheap home runs, but the artificial turf rewards firm barrel contact and sharply hit ground balls.
Make Jump labor, then attack the Athletics’ middle relief

Jump’s bat-missing arsenal is a genuine risk, especially if he lands strike one and avoids traffic. A closed roof and the park’s deep alleys also reduce the chance of collecting runs on mishit fly balls.
