A trophy nobody has ever lifted, a league with no past to lean on, and two sides who have already knocked each other over this season. That is a final worth clearing the table for.
Edinburgh's week off, and what it has to cover
Edinburgh Castle Rockers finished top of the league stage and walked straight into Sunday, carrying an NRR of +1.208 against Belfast's +0.602. They have not played since Thursday, which is the cleanest single advantage on the card.
The closing rhythm was poor, mind you. Their batting was taken apart by off-spin against Amsterdam, Rotterdam edged them out, and against Belfast the top order again handed the middle order a repair job.
Brandon McMullen, Mitchell Santner and Tom Curran keep dragging lost games back into view, and the attack is the better balanced one across phases: Trent Boult at 6.83 an over, Curran with 16 wickets, Jack Jarvis with 11. A team economy of 7.49 against 8.10 is not a rounding error in a final.
Boult returned for the last league match and Laurie Evans is back in the mix; continuity rather than another reshuffle is the expectation, with Topley, Tye and Safyaan Sharif held as seam alternatives (cricketeurope.com).
Belfast's momentum, minus the man who finished the job
Belfast Wolves took the hard road, beating Amsterdam on Saturday with Devon Conway anchoring and Glenn Maxwell closing. Matthew Humphreys with the new ball has been the sharpest tactical idea of their tournament.
The batting shape is the worry. David Miller, who supplied the late acceleration that beat Edinburgh on Thursday, missed the Qualifier and is not in the declared squad, while Mark Chapman retired hurt in that same game with no return-to-play update published (cricketeurope.com).
That leaves Maxwell as the one genuinely destructive option, with Lorcan Tucker striking at 125 in the form window and Harry Manenti at 111 for the season. Chris Jordan's 10.05 economy has been the most expensive corner of this attack all year.
Malahide in daylight: firm, true, and nobody's dew
A 14:15 local start means this finishes well before sunset, so the evening chasing bonus everybody instinctively reaches for is simply not available. Dry, mild, light south-westerly wind, minimal rain risk.

I have added it up twice, out of habit, and the answer does not move: the version of Belfast that beat Edinburgh two days ago was a middle-order rescue plus a violent left-handed finish, and the finisher is not here. Their openers have been quiet through the whole knockout run.
Against that, Edinburgh field a new-ball bowler operating near five and a half an over in the powerplay, a death specialist who also strikes with the old ball, and a seamer who has already taken a four-for at this ground. Add one side rested since Thursday and the other bowling on consecutive days.
It is an edge, not a landslide — Belfast defend well when Humphreys bowls in the powerplay, and Edinburgh's top four have built nothing in three matches. At a shade under even money, that is still the side I want.
Chapman could yet be cleared, Belfast could drop a seamer to restore batting depth, and Maxwell on his own can win a final from any scoreline.
