Dodgers: Skubal's Third Start, Taxed Late Arms
The Dodgers are listing Tarik Skubal as their starter for his third outing since the deadline blockbuster. His two home starts have been respectable rather than overpowering, and Kansas City made him work hard enough to prevent a deep Dodger Stadium debut. The more immediate issue is behind him. Edwin Díaz and Tanner Scott had pitched on consecutive days entering Saturday, and Díaz looked less than fully settled Friday. With a Monday game in Colorado immediately after, Dave Roberts has little room to burn through that late group again.
Freddie Freeman is the main lineup question after tumbling into the Royals' dugout on August 12. Roberts described it as a dodged bullet, and Freeman sat Friday as a scheduled day off. Will Smith remains unavailable, leaving Hunter Feduccia and Ben Rortvedt to split catching duties.
The left-handed core of Ohtani, Freeman, Tucker and Muncy should be there against Henderson, assuming Freeman's soreness does not increase after Saturday.
Brewers: Fresher Bullpen and a Monday to Spend
Milwaukee will list Logan Henderson as its starter after a normal August 10 workload in San Diego. His changeup is the key weapon against the Dodgers' left-handed power, but the late go-ahead home run he allowed to the Padres is a reminder of the danger the third time through the order.
The bullpen is where Milwaukee's edge is clearest. Friday's loss required only Grant Anderson and Bryse Wilson behind Robert Gasser, so Pat Murphy kept his preferred late-inning options fresh. With Monday off, he can ask Trevor Megill or another premium arm for more than three outs and can even use his best reliever before the ninth if the top of the order is due.
Against left-handed Skubal, Gary Sánchez and Andrew Vaughn become more attractive platoon options, while Christian Yelich likely stays at DH. Milwaukee's rangy outfield also plays well in Dodger Stadium's alleys.
Afternoon Heat and a Getaway Spot
First pitch is 4:10 PM ET, with temperatures around 83–85°F and a dry forecast. The warm afternoon should let well-struck elevated contact carry more than in the first two night games. Dodger Stadium's deep alleys still reward outfield range, which suits the Brewers' athletic group.
Prediction: Milwaukee's Rest Edge Is the Difference
Two elite starters keep this game close on paper. The difference is the final third: the Dodgers have leaned on Díaz and Scott heavily, the closer's command has been unsettled, and the Dodgers must travel to Colorado after this game. Milwaukee has Monday off and a fresher bullpen, so Pat Murphy can manage the late innings without saving bullets.
Milwaukee also holds the better season record and a comparable run differential, with right-handed platoon bats to attack Skubal. The plus-one-and-a-half run line would be the safer expression, but the fresher bullpen makes the outright win the stronger play.
The risk is Skubal rediscovering dominant length and making the bullpen question irrelevant. Henderson's late home-run tendency and Freeman's day-to-day status are the other ways this can flip. But the road price offers the value.
