Sherif’s ranking is built on clay: she is 32–12 there this year, but 1–4 on hard and 1–6 on hard last season. Her latest hard-court losses were 3–6, 4–6 and 1–6, 2–6; against Bartunkova she did not earn a break point, and in Monterrey Oliynykova kept her serve under pressure.

Kudermetova is 11–9 on hard this year and has had more recent match play. She came back from a set and a break down to beat Bucsa, served for the first set twice against Svitolina, then stayed in a tight Seoul decider with Rakhimova. Her Madrid win over Sherif came on clay, but still shows she has the tools.

P2 is worth taking at this price: Sherif’s hard-court level gives Kudermetova room to be the favourite without making her one by a wide margin. Sherif has not played since September 2 and retired in Hamburg with a reported hip problem; there is no fresh medical update.
